Our story

How OnlyDogFood started

We started OnlyDogFood for the same reason you are probably here. We stood in the pet aisle, turned a bag over, and could not make sense of the label.

One pack said "with chicken" in big friendly letters. The small print said 4%. The rating sites we checked wanted us to trust a number with no working behind it - and a few of them, it turned out, let brands pay their way up the list.

So we built the thing we wished existed: every label read the same way, every score explained, and the whole method out in the open where anyone can check it.

We are UK-first, independent, and slightly obsessed with getting this right. Your dog cannot read the label. We can - so we do it for them.

Why we exist

The problem with dog food

Dog food is marketed harder than almost anything else you buy. The pack is designed to reassure you, not to inform you.

"With chicken" can mean 4% chicken

The words on the front of the pack are marketing. The percentages in the small print are the truth - when they are printed at all.

"Trust us", they say

Most rating sites hand you a number and hide the method behind it. You are asked to take it on faith. We do not think that is good enough.

Pay-to-rank

On some sites a good placement is something a brand can buy. A league table you can pay to climb is not a league table.

The real cost is hidden

Price per pack tells you nothing when the same food comes in ten different sizes. What matters is what it costs to feed your dog each day.

One open score, and the working to back it up

We score every UK dog food from 0 to 100 on the ODF Score - ingredients, meat content and transparency - with a point-by-point breakdown on every food page. No brand can pay to move it. Ever.

How we rate

02We work out the real cost per day, not per pack, so price can never hide behind tin sizes.
