Who we are
OnlyDogFood (“we”, “us”) is an independent dog food rating and comparison website for the United Kingdom. For data-protection purposes we are the data controller. OnlyDogFood is a trading name of OnlyDogFood, a sole trader based at London, UK. You can contact us at [email protected].
What we collect
- Newsletter sign-ups - if you subscribe, your name (optional), email address and which lists you chose, together with a record of your consent (date and IP address) as proof that you asked to hear from us. Contacts are stored with Brevo, our email provider. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
- Review accounts and reviews - if you leave a review, the account details you register (email address and display name) and the content you submit, including any details about your dog you choose to share (for example breed, age or weight). Your email address is never published.
- Enquiries - if you email us or use a contact form, the details you provide (name, email address, message).
- Server logs and security data - standard technical logs (IP address, user agent) kept for security and troubleshooting. The site sits behind Cloudflare, which processes the same technical data to block attacks and speed up delivery.
- Analytics - only if you consent to analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity collect anonymised usage data (pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser). Microsoft Clarity also records anonymised session activity - mouse movement, clicks and scrolling - to build heatmaps that show how pages are used; form fields and other sensitive content are masked and not captured. Nothing analytics-related runs before you consent.
What we never collect
We do not sell anything or take payments on this site, so we never collect or store card or payment details.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links to retailers are affiliate links. When you click one you leave our site - any cookies the retailer sets are set on their site, governed by their own privacy and cookie policies, not ours. The link may carry a referral tag so the retailer knows we sent you; it does not identify you to us.
Legal basis
We rely on your consent for the newsletter and for analytics cookies - you can withdraw either at any time. We rely on our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving the site to handle enquiries, host and moderate reviews, and keep server logs.
Sharing & third parties
We use Brevo to store newsletter contacts and send our emails, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity (both only with your consent) for usage statistics and heatmaps, and Cloudflare for security and content delivery. Where data is transferred outside the UK/EEA it is protected by appropriate safeguards (for example the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses). We do not sell your personal data.
Retention
Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed. Reviews and review accounts are kept while the review is published (you can ask us to delete either). Enquiry data is kept only as long as needed to deal with your request and meet legal obligations.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to our processing of your personal data, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer.
Complaints
If you have concerns you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
