What this site is
OnlyDogFood is an independent review and comparison website. Every score, verdict, ranking and written assessment on this site is our opinion, produced in good faith by applying the open methodology published at How we rate to information that manufacturers themselves make public. We have no ownership ties to any pet food manufacturer, and no brand can pay to change a score.
Where our data comes from
Ingredient lists, analytical constituents, feeding guides and product details are taken in good faith from the public domain - manufacturers’ own websites, packaging and published listings. Recipes and prices change without notice and manufacturers do not always announce reformulations, so despite our best efforts some information may be out of date or contain errors at any given time. Always rely on the packaging in your hands, not on this website, as the definitive statement of what is in a food. If you spot an error, please tell us at [email protected] and we will correct it promptly - and brands can use our corrections and removal process.
Scores are comparisons, not guarantees
A score reflects how a food’s published ingredients and nutrition rate under our methodology. It is a like-for-like comparison tool, not a promise that any food will suit any particular dog. Every dog is different: a lower-scoring food may suit your dog better than a higher-scoring one. The value we place on individual ingredients reflects our research and judgement and is, ultimately, subjective opinion.
Not veterinary advice
We are not veterinarians and nothing on this site is veterinary or medical advice. Health-related search filters relay claims made by the foods’ manufacturers, which we pass on in good faith without endorsing them. Always consult your vet before changing your dog’s diet, especially for puppies, pregnant or nursing dogs, and dogs with allergies, weight issues or any medical condition.
Prices and feeding costs are estimates
Prices are collected from retailers and manufacturers at a point in time and cost-per-day figures are our own estimates, derived from published feeding guidance and typical nutritional values; some extrapolation is necessary to make foods comparable. Use them to compare foods with each other - never as a substitute for the feeding guide on the product’s own packaging, and always check the retailer’s current price before buying.
Product images, names and trademarks
Product photographs, pack shots, brand names and logos remain the property of their respective owners, and each image is credited to its brand on the product page. We display them solely to identify the products being reviewed, alongside genuine criticism and review of those products - the purpose for which section 30 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 permits fair dealing. Whether any particular use is fair is ultimately a matter for a court, not for us to declare, and we say this to explain our purpose rather than to assert a right. Their appearance on this site does not imply any affiliation with, sponsorship by, or endorsement from the trademark or copyright owner - and a review, positive or negative, is not a statement by that brand. Any rights holder who objects to a specific use can ask us to review or remove it through our Content Removal & Corrections process. We would far rather receive an email than a letter, and we act on these quickly and without argument about who was entitled to what.
User reviews and comments
Reviews and comments are the personal opinions of their authors, based on their own experience, and do not necessarily reflect our views. We are the operator of this website, not the author of those reviews. We moderate against our Review Guidelines and give brands a free right of public reply, but we do not verify every statement in every review and accept no responsibility for the opinions expressed in them.
Complaining about a review
If you believe a specific review is defamatory or otherwise unlawful, send us a notice of complaint. To let us act on it properly - and to allow us to follow the statutory process for website operators under section 5 of the Defamation Act 2013 and the Defamation (Operators of Websites) Regulations 2013 - your notice should set out:
- your name and an address we can reply to;
- the exact page link (URL) and enough of the wording to identify the review complained of;
- what specifically you say is defamatory, and why it is factually inaccurate or otherwise unlawful;
- whether you have enough information to identify and contact the person who posted it; and
- whether you consent to us passing your notice to that person.
That statutory process runs to strict deadlines once a valid notice arrives, so please date your notice and send it to the contact address below rather than through a social media message, and we will start the clock immediately. We keep the details necessary to contact a reviewer when they post, so that a poster can be notified and given the opportunity to respond. Sending a complaint does not oblige you to take any further step, and we will always look at a straightforward request to correct a factual error first - that route is faster for you than any formal process.
Brand-provided content
Where a brand manages its own listing, anything the brand writes about itself (its description, offers, and responses to reviews) is clearly labelled as coming from the brand. It is the brand’s content, not ours, and it never alters an independent score.

Our opinions, and how we form them
Every rating, ranking and written assessment on this site is our honest opinion. Each one is formed by applying a single published methodology - set out in full at How we rate and applied identically to every product, whether or not the brand has an account with us, advertises with us, or has ever spoken to us - to information the manufacturer has itself put into the public domain. We hold no undisclosed interest in the outcome of any rating, and no payment of any kind can alter one. Where we state a fact, we state its source; where we express a view, we identify what it is based on. If we get a fact wrong we correct it, promptly and without requiring anybody to threaten us first.
Corrections
We would genuinely rather fix an error than defend one. Factual mistakes reported to [email protected] - by owners or by brands - are reviewed and corrected as quickly as we can manage, and our removal process is open to any rights holder or brand.
If you are a brand and something here is wrong, an email will very likely fix it the same day. Nothing on this page is intended to discourage you from simply telling us.
