Our take on COYA
Written by us, from the labels. Never written, reviewed or paid for by the brand.
COYA is one of the strongest small ranges on this site. Across 4 rated foods it averages 88/100 (Very good), ranking 23 of 290, and the weakest food in the range still scores 83/100. A floor that high is rarer than a good top score.
Most of the range is freeze-dried raw, which is where those numbers come from. Freeze-drying removes water rather than cooking the ingredients, so the label ends up being a short list of named meat and named plants with very little else to hide behind. Our score rewards exactly that: named proteins, declared percentages, nothing vague. The best of them, COYA Adult Topper, reaches 90/100.
Two things to be clear about. Freeze-dried food is expensive per kilo - you are paying to have the water taken out and posted to you, and the price per day is a real consideration for a big dog. And one of the products in this range is a topper rather than a complete food, so it is meant to go on top of a meal, not be the meal.
The brand is British, made in Norfolk, and the labels back up what the marketing says - which is not something we get to write often. If the price works for your dog's size, this is a range worth taking seriously rather than a boutique novelty.
