The score is driven by the ingredient list. When a label leads with broad category terms instead of named meats, and declares no percentage for the things that matter, our score has nothing specific to credit it for. That is not the same finding as "this food will harm your dog" - it is that you cannot tell what you are buying, and neither can we.

Terms like meat and animal derivatives are legal and common at this end of the market. In practice they let a manufacturer change what goes in between batches depending on what is cheap that month, without changing a word on the bag. Some dogs do perfectly well on food described that way. You just have no way to compare it against anything else, which is the whole problem.

This is a low-cost complete food from a long-standing Northern Irish mill, and cheap food per kilo is a real requirement for people feeding several dogs or working dogs. That is not something to be sniffy about. But there are foods at a similar price on this site that name their ingredients, and that comparison is the useful one - not the number on its own.
