Our take on Grub Club

Written by us, from the labels. Never written, reviewed or paid for by the brand.

Grub Club is a London brand built on insect protein, and the range is small: 2 rated foods averaging 81/100 (Very good), ranking 99 of 304, with a spread of 9 points between them.

The sustainability argument is what gets the press, but the more useful reason to look here is allergies. Insect protein is a novel protein for almost every dog in Britain, which is exactly what you want if your dog reacts to chicken, beef or lamb. That is a practical benefit rather than a marketing one, and it is why plenty of people end up on foods like this after an elimination diet.

The two foods are not equivalent. Grub Club Steam-Cooked Wet is the stronger at 85/100, well ahead of the other, so pick the product rather than the brand.

Price is the honest limitation, starting at around £1.36 a day and climbing steeply for the higher-scoring option. If your dog has no protein sensitivity, there are cheaper ways to reach the same score. If they do, that changes the maths.

This is label analysis, not veterinary advice. If your dog has a health condition, talk to your vet before switching foods.
