Our take on Markus Mühle

Written by us, from the labels. Never written, reviewed or paid for by the brand.

Markus Muehle is a German brand that makes cold-pressed food and nothing else. All 12 of its rated foods use the same process, which makes it one of the few genuinely single-method brands on this site.

Cold pressing is worth explaining, because it is the entire reason to consider this brand. Conventional kibble is extruded: cooked at high temperature and pressure, which needs a good deal of starch to hold the shape together. Cold-pressed food is compressed at much lower temperatures, so the recipe needs less starch and the pellet breaks down differently in the gut. Some dogs visibly do better on it. Plenty are unbothered either way, and it is not a magic category.

The scores here run 60 to 73 out of 100, averaging 66 (Good) and ranking 194 of 290, with Markus Muehle Natural Dog Food at the top on 73/100. Respectable rather than remarkable - the recipes are not as meat-forward as the best cold-pressed foods we rate, and our score reflects that rather than the process.

Around £0.41 a day at the cheapest.

Worth a look if you specifically want cold-pressed and want it from a brand that only does that. Compare it against the other cold-pressed foods on the site before committing, because it is not the strongest in that category.
