Our take on PitPat

Written by us, from the labels. Never written, reviewed or paid for by the brand.

PitPat is a Cambridge activity-tracker company that also sells dog food, and the food is solid rather than special. Across 4 rated foods it averages 61/100 (Good), ranking 208 of 290, with scores from 57 to 69. The strongest is PitPat Adult Dry at 69/100.

All four are grain-inclusive dry foods, which we want to be clear is not what is holding the score down. Grains are a perfectly reasonable energy source and the grain-free premium is mostly marketing. What separates a food in this band from one twenty points higher is how much of the label is named and declared, and how much is left as broad category terms.

The thing to watch is how this food gets bought. PitPat's pitch is that the tracker knows how much your dog moves, so it can tell you how much to feed - and the food arrives as the answer to that question. That is a genuinely useful portion-control tool, but it also means the food is chosen for you by the company selling it, at the moment you are least likely to be comparing labels.

None of which makes it a bad buy. If the tracker and the feeding guidance are what you are paying for, the food coming with it is decent. Just check what the same money buys elsewhere on this site before the subscription renews.
