Our take on ProDog

Written by us, from the labels. Never written, reviewed or paid for by the brand.

ProDog is one of the strongest raw ranges we have rated. Across 4 rated foods it averages 88/100 (Very good), ranking 19 of 304, and ProDog Complete Raw Dog Food tops the range at 92/100.

Ignore the headline spread of 7 points. The bottom of the range is a complementary line rather than a complete meal, and complementary products are not built to carry a full diet, so they never score like one. Read against the complete raw meals only, this range is tight and it is high.

Raw scores well on our system for an unglamorous reason: the labels are short and the ingredients are named. When a food is meat, bone, offal and vegetables in declared proportions, there is nothing to hide and nothing for us to mark down. That is a labelling advantage as much as a nutritional one.

The trade-offs are practical rather than nutritional. Raw needs freezer space, careful handling and hygiene, and it costs more per day than dry. ProDog makes its food in DEFRA-approved UK facilities and balances to FEDIAF standards, which is the baseline you should be checking on any raw brand before you buy.

If you are already feeding raw, this range holds up on the label. If you are thinking about switching, start with the complete meals rather than the toppers, and talk to your vet first if your dog has a health condition.
