Our take on The Farmer’s Dog

Written by us, from the labels. Never written, reviewed or paid for by the brand.

The Farmer's Dog scores well and consistently: 3 rated foods averaging 85/100 (Very good), ranked 48 of 304, with only 4 points between the best and the worst. The Farmer's Dog Raw Offal Chubs leads at 87/100.

The thing to understand before you order is that every one of these is a complementary food, not a complete one. Chubs of raw meat, tripe and offal are ingredients for a diet rather than a diet in themselves. Fed as the only thing in the bowl, a straight muscle-and-offal mix will not carry the full vitamin and mineral profile a dog needs long term. That is not a criticism of the product - it is what the product is for.

So these scores are best read as a verdict on the raw material. It is British, human-grade, single-source meat with a plain label and nothing padding it out, which is exactly the sort of thing our score rewards. If you already build your dog's meals and know what you are balancing, this is good stuff to build with.

If you are looking for a food you can feed and stop thinking about, this is not that, and the complete raw ranges on this site are the better place to look. Worth being blunt about it, because "raw dog food" covers both and the difference lands on your dog rather than on the website.

One naming note: there is an unrelated American company using the same name and selling gently cooked food on subscription. Different business, different food. This page is about the Devon one.
