Our take on Vitalin

Written by us, from the labels. Never written, reviewed or paid for by the brand.

Vitalin runs a wide and mostly mid-to-low range: 9 rated foods from 11 to 75, a spread of 64 points, averaging 51/100 (Average) and ranking 235 of 290.

The better foods, topped by Vitalin Adult Grain Free at 75/100, are respectable. The rest lean heavily on cereals and broad ingredient categories, which is where our score marks down - not because cereal is harmful, but because a label that will not say which cereal, or how much meat, cannot be judged properly.

It is a long-established working-dog brand sold largely through country stores and feed merchants, at about £0.18 a day for the cheapest.

If you are feeding active dogs on a budget the value is real. Just check the individual score rather than assuming the range is uniform, because it is not.
