Wainwright's is Pets at Home's own brand, and it is one of the more genuinely interesting ranges on the UK shelf - because own-brand usually means cheap, and this mostly does not.

Across the 47 foods we have rated it averages 78/100 (Good), ranking 130 of 304. The wet trays are where it is strongest: a recipe that opens "72% Turkey, Brown Rice, Dried Peas, Dried Carrots" is a genuinely good label at a supermarket-adjacent price, and it is the sort of thing premium brands charge considerably more for. There is a freeze-dried raw line too, which is unusual for an own brand.

The dry side is more ordinary, and that is the split worth knowing. Buying "Wainwright's" tells you almost nothing on its own - the range runs 46 to 86, a spread of 40 points, so the tray and the bag beside it can be two quite different foods.

The catch is not nutritional, it is practical: it is a Pets at Home exclusive. If you move away from that shop you are moving off the food, so it is worth being sure before you commit a fussy dog to it.

Its best-scoring food here is Wainwright's Complete Freeze Dried Raw on 86/100, and the cheapest works out at about £0.52 a day. No dog eats a brand average - pick the product, not the logo.
