Alpha Spirit Dog Food Review & Ratings

Alpha Spirit is one of the few brands on this site where the worst food is still a good one. Across 21 rated foods the range runs from 49 to 94 out of 100, averaging 80 (Very good) and ranking 107 of 304. Most brands with this many products have at least one bag we would steer you away from. This one does not.

The reason is that it barely makes conventional kibble. The range is semi-moist sausages, cold-pressed foods and wet - formats that do not need the starch content extrusion demands, so the recipes lead with meat rather than working around a cereal base. Alpha Spirit Realfood Complete tops the range at 94/100.

The catch is the format itself. Semi-moist sausage is not a like-for-like swap for a scoop of kibble - it is stored differently, portioned differently and costs more per day, at around £1.04 for the cheapest option here. Plenty of dogs get on with it enormously; plenty of owners find it does not fit their week.

It is also Spanish, made in Lorca and sold here through a distributor, so availability is thinner than a supermarket brand and a line can vanish for a while without much warning.

Worth it if the format suits your household. If you want a bag of kibble you can buy anywhere on a Sunday, this is not that, and no amount of ingredient quality changes it.
