Can dogs eat Yorkshire pudding?
In moderation, and only just - a small piece of plain Yorkshire pudding will not harm most dogs, but there is nothing in it they need. Flour, egg, milk and fat is a nibble, never a portion.

There is no toxin in a plain Yorkshire pudding - it is a simple batter of flour, eggs and milk, baked in hot fat. That is also the problem. It is essentially salt, fat and refined carbohydrate in a puffy jacket, offering a dog calories and nothing else. Many dogs are also lactose intolerant, so the milk can niggle a sensitive stomach. The bigger hazards sit next to the pudding on a roast plate: gravy made with onion, stuffing with onion and garlic, and cooked bones are all far worse than the Yorkshire itself.
How much is safe?
A bite-sized piece, occasionally, is the honest limit - a torn-off corner for a small dog, a little more for a big one. A whole Yorkshire pudding is a lot of fat and salt for any dog, and it should not become a weekly roast-day ritual.
How to prepare it
If you share at all, tear off a small plain piece before the gravy goes anywhere near it. No gravy, no meat juices, nothing from a pudding that has sat under onion-laced liquid. Better still, keep a proper dog treat on hand for roast day.
Symptoms to watch for
Too much can cause an upset stomach, wind or a loose stool, and the fat can set off pancreatitis in susceptible dogs - repeated vomiting, a painful belly and lethargy are the signs to watch. A pudding soaked in onion gravy adds a genuine toxin to the mix.
