This ranking rebuilds itself as we rate more foods - it’s the live top of the UK table, not a list we typed last spring and quietly forgot about. Treats and toppers are excluded, so a brand can’t ride a single lucky pig’s ear to the top.

One pattern jumps out, and it’s worth knowing before you spend anything: the top of the British table is dominated by raw, freeze-dried and gently cooked foods. That’s not patriotic bias - it’s just what happens when recipes carry more named meat and less filler. It’s true of every country we cover.

How we picked

Every number on this page is the ODF Score - a 0-100 rating computed by one open algorithm from each food’s published ingredients and analytical constituents. “British” means the brand’s country of origin is the UK in our database. And because the whole page is generated from live data, what you’re reading is the ranking as it stands today - if a brand reformulates or a new food takes the crown, this page already knows.

A fairness note: fresh, raw and freeze-dried foods outscore kibble as a class, everywhere, not just in Britain. That’s why the by-type sections exist - the best dry food deserves better than being buried under twenty raw recipes.
